We planned to get the whole way to Masonic, but my 2WD with low clearance was not able to get through the dirt road and we had to stop 3-4 miles from the Masonic town.
But we were able to visit the Chemung mine, which is in the lower portion of it. This is the small ghost settlement around the former gold mine.

Chemung Mine was discovered in 1909 and worked until about 1938. During the 1950’s and 1960’s a lone prospector by the name of Elton “Heinie” Heinemeyer worked the Chemung tunnel and supported himself with his findings but never hit the big strike.

The dirt road to the place and then back to Bridgeport is very spectacular. I recommend the following route (ok for 2 WD car):
